Vitamin C
Guinea pigs can't make their own vitamin C.
This means they need a regular supply from their diet to stay healthy.
Without enough vitamin C, they can develop scurvy, a serious illness that affects their skin, teeth and bones.
Vitamin C is vital for producing collagen, which is essential for healthy connective tissues throughout their body.
So, make sure your guinea pigs get a daily dose of vitamin C through their food.
A well-balanced diet with plenty of fresh, leafy greens usually provides all the vitamin C your guinea pigs need.
It's not always easy to be sure they're getting the right amount.
If you're worried, add a vitamin C supplement directly to their food each day.
Avoid putting vitamin C supplements/drops in their water, as sunlight makes it less effective, and the taste can discourage them from drinking enough.
